Sandra Jean Higgs

Sandra Jean Higgs, 75, of Moon Township, died Wednesday, August 30, 2023, while vacationing in Aruba with her beloved husband of 57 years, (Ellwood) Warren Higgs.

Sandy was born February 9, 1948, in Pittsburgh, PA. Her younger years were spent in the Sheraden neighborhood of Pittsburgh with her parents and three younger brothers. She graduated from Langley High School in 1965 and, after earning an Associate Degree in Business Administration, worked as an administrative assistant for several companies in the Pittsburgh area until retiring from FedEx in 2013.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

Sandy knew the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and faithfully served Him. As a founding member of Providence Presbyterian Church, she spent almost fifty years serving in a variety of roles. She helped facilitate Women’s Bible studies, was a secretary for Women in the Church, coordinated and helped cook many fellowship meals, was a mentor for the Apples of Gold ministry, volunteered in the Robinson Township Christian School office, served in children’s ministries, welcomed new members, helped with the new mothers’ ministry, participated in various small groups, and was available to help wherever needed. She also was dedicated to supporting Warren in his role as Deacon for more than forty years.

Sandy is survived by her husband, (Ellwood) Warren; sons, Jeffrey (Debbie) and Stephen (Corinne); brothers, Bruce (Sandi) Tomlinson and Bill (Judy) Tomlinson; sister-in-law, Priscilla Bagwell; beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Maida, Ryan, Stephen Jr. and Jacob; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvy and Laura (Scott) Tomlinson and her brother, James Tomlinson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, September 16th at Providence Presbyterian Church (77 Phillips Lane, McKees Rocks, PA 15136), with family and friends’ visitation hours in the narthex from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. A dinner reception in the church’s fellowship hall will immediately follow the service. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church.
