THORNBURG, PA: On the first day of Spring 2022, Rich peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family members. In December of 2020 Rich was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) that tragically ended his life.
He married the love of his life and best friend, Linda Vodvarka, on March 25th 1966, - 56 years ago. He often referred to her as Pal, My baby, My baby or his favorite term of endearment……My fat girl.
Rich was a proud Marine Veteran. He served our country from 1966-1969, doing a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Upon leaving the military he worked with his father, Fred Froehlich, at PITT OIL Co. in the bottoms. When his father sold his company, we decided we wanted a business of our own.
In 1976 the opportunity happened! We purchased ACE WIRE SPRING & FORM CO., Inc. from Linda’s father, Joseph Vodvarka, who founded the business in 1939. In 1986 they built a 55,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in McKees Rocks, PA. out growing their previous factory in Stowe Twp. The rest is history. ACE is a thriving manufacturing facility with the latest CNC equipment in the industry. Rich also served on the BOD of the SMI ( Spring Manufacturing Institute for many years. He was well-known and respected by all his industry colleagues. He was a no-nonsense guy and you always knew exactly where you stood with him. He was an avid golfer and belonged to Chartiers Country Club, Sewickley Heights Golf Club and Pelican Marsh Golf Club in Naples, FL
Rich will be deeply missed by his beloved family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Vodvarka Froehlich, son Ritch Froehlich, daughter Deanna Olivani and husband Mark Olivani (Houston, TX). His 6 grandchildren (who he was extremely proud of) called him “PAP”! He was an inspiration to each of them never missing an opportunity to give them advice. They are Tresslyn Froehlich, Ritchy (RJ) Froehlich, Taytem Froehlich, Blaise Olivani, MJ (Mark) Olivani and CA$H Olivani.
Also grieving are his brother, Fred Froehlich and wife Claudia Froehlich, and his sister-in-law Victoria Vodvarka Prostko and husband, Dr. E. R. Prostko who he loved with all his heart and soul. Brother in-laws Joe Vodvarka and Dr. James Vodvarka. Sister-in-law, Loretta (Dee) Froehlich. Many nieces, nephews and cousins are also mourning his loss.
Rich was preceded by death by his Mother, Agnes Gallan Hodgekiss, Father, Fred Froehlich and brother Robert (Bob) Froehlich
He was a great listener, friend, and mentor to many of his past and present employees. They could always talk to Rich with whatever problems or concerns they might have. He was compassionate and listen attentively before offering any advice. He was a man who truly cared about his fellow man and always made a difference. That was Rich Froehlich!
