Patricia Emily Pass

Patty, age 74, passed away Sunday July 29, 2018, sadly taken from us after fighting a valiant battle against Parkinson’s Disease.  Patty shared a wonderful and full life with and is survived by, her husband of 52 years, Joseph J. Pass, sister Michelle Knoll Krings and her husband Doug Krings, three children and their spouses and significant other, Melissa (Pass) Young and Christopher Young, Christine (Pass) Ellison and Christian Ellison, and Joseph S. Pass and Jennifer Seretti and eight grandchildren, Avery Young, Caden Young, Lucas Young, Whitaker Young, Bishal Ellison, Sahara Ellison, Kiran Ellison, and India Ellison. She is also survived by her uncle, James Morgan, and many nieces and nephews.

Patty was born in McKees Rocks, the daughter of Herbert and Patricia Knoll. She was a graduate of Montour High school and the University of Pittsburgh where she earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education.  She married her husband in 1966, whom she first met riding horses on the streets of Mckees Rocks in a snowstorm. Patty was one of the first teachers to teach Head Start, an education program designed to help disadvantaged children. She then taught elementary school in the West Allegheny School District, and when her husband entered the US Army, she taught in Muldraugh, Kentucky, where in 1968 she was asked to leave because she was pregnant with her first child.

She was the heart of her home and always made those around her feel welcome and a part of her family. Her life was enriched by family, friends, gardening, delivering Meals on Wheels, bowling, bridge, puzzles, golf and late night rounds of Rummikub.  Patty doted on her grandchildren who accentuated her love of travel through frequent cross-country journeys to attend the next sporting event, graduation or recital.  Her kind heart, wit and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Predeceasing Patty are her parents and sister Cheryl Knoll. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the name of the Parkinson’s Foundation of Western Pennsylvania. pfwpa.org

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 3, 2018, at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 343 Forest Grove Road, Kennedy Township, PA, at 10:00 A.M., immediately followed by a celebration of Patty’s life at the Hyeholde Restaurant, 1516 Coraopolis Heights Road, Moon Township, PA.
