On Thursday, August 4, Matthew Regis McMahon (Rege) of Kennedy Township, passed away. He is survived by Evelyn, his loving wife of nearly 69 years, and by his daughter Patricia McMahon and son-in-law Tom Simmermon of Cranberry, and by his daughter Lynn McMahon of Kennedy. Also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews and his sisters-in-law, Marge McMahon and Virginia Fallon. Rege was the son of the late Matthew and Marcella McMahon and brother of the late Anna Rose Blodis, Francis "Brother" McMahon, and Marcella Pinak.
A remarkable man with boundless optimism, Rege, 93 years old, enjoyed a long life filled with love and humor. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, having served throughout Europe. An athlete all of his life, Rege cherished the friendships he made through sports. He believed in the power of education to transform lives, and, throughout his own life, continually broadened his perspective through reading. Loved by all who knew him, Rege will be deeply missed and remembered forever for his devotion to his wife and family and for his beautifully gentle nature.
Family and friends will be received on SUNDAY from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 334 Forest Grove Road, Coraopolis (Kennedy Twp.), where prayers will be offered MONDAY at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Malachy Church in Kennedy Township.
