John "Jack" Mitchell

John "Jack" Mitchell, age 92, of Kennedy Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2023.  Beloved husband of 62 years to Adaline Bloomer Mitchell.  Loving father of Kelly (David) Bates; grandfather of Emma Bates. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.  He graduated from McKees Rocks High School and then attended Waynesburg College on a football and track scholarship.  Prior to finishing college, he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Biaroko during the Korean War. Following the Korean War, he completed his degree in Biology at the University of Pittsburgh.  He was an underwriter for several insurance companies, most notably The Hartford Insurance Company for 25 years.  Jack was known around town for running in different local 10K’s and playing tennis.  He was a lifelong member of the Ken Mawr United Presbyterian Church where he served in several different leadership roles.  Later in life he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Emma watching her in her various endeavors and watching “Mikes” baseball.  Jack was also an avid reader.  Relatives and friends received Friday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, 344 Forest Grove Road, Coraopolis (Kennedy Township), PA 15108.  Funeral service Saturday 11 AM at Ken Mawr United Presbyterian Church, 1760 Pine Hollow Road, McKees Rocks, PA 15136.  Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date.    In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
