Helen Yarnot

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend Helen A. Yarnot, 95, of Carnegie, died on Saturday, March 13, 2021, surrounded by family at St. Clair Hospital.  Helen was born on August 17, 1925 in Pittsburgh and spent her entire life in the Pittsburgh area.  She married her husband Joseph on May 20, 1947 and raised four loving children in Ingram.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her parents, Andrew and Mary Wanis, and her sister Anna Steen. Her loss is profoundly felt by her children, Andrew (Donna) Yarnot of Salisbury, NC, Julia (Richard) Dimmick of Frankfort, DE, Stephen (Debra) Yarnot of Pittsburgh, and Joseph of Carnegie. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Shannon (Staz) Winters, Kara (Todd Whay) Yarnot, Ian (Heather) Yarnot, Zachary (Delene) Yarnot, Sara (David Burya) Dimmick, and Mark Dimmick, and the 7 great-grandchildren who lit up her life - Jacen, Megan, Isaak, Roman, Walker, Caden, and Jozlyn.

Helen will be remembered for her big heart, quick wit, and lifelong lucky streak. Whether playing “her numbers” in the PA Daily Lottery, bingo at the Knights of Columbus, or roulette in a casino, Helen was often a winner.  She once won a raffle on a charter flight to Atlantic City making her a winner before she even got there.  The home in Ingram she shared with her husband for 39 years was the center of activity for family and friends.  She welcomed everyone with a big hug and immediately offered a sandwich and a ginger ale. She hosted many holiday gatherings that featured her famous star cookies.

Family will receive friends 1:00 - 3:00 PM THURSDAY at the McDermott Funeral Home, Inc., 334 Forest Grove Road, Kennedy Twp.

A private family burial will be held 11:00 AM FRIDAY at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Moon Township.
