Gerard F. "Jerry" Powers

Gerard F. "Jerry" Powers, age 88, of Kennedy Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years Judith J. (Adamchik) Powers, sons Jerry and David; grandchildren Donovan “DJ”, Conner, David, Brittany, and Bill; also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.  Jerry was employed with Verizon for 43 years, was a former Civil Service Commissioner of Kennedy Township, and an elected Democratic Committeeperson in Kennedy.  His love of family, sports, and community also carried over to being a longtime basketball coach at St. Malachy grade school.  In addition, he coached baseball of all different ages in the Kennedy Township baseball league.  Prior to that, he coached baseball at the Perry Athletic Association.  One of his proudest accomplishments, along with his friend, Jerry Burik, was spearheading the building of the gym at St. Malachy grade school.  He was actively involved in his church, St. Malachy, belonging to many organizations over the years.  A love of all sports and golf kept him active all his life and into his later years.  Relatives and friends received Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, 334 Forest Grove Road, Coraopolis (Kennedy Township) PA 15108.  Funeral prayer Wednesday 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Archangel Gabriel Parish, St. Malachy Church, 343 Forest Grove Road, Kennedy Township.
