Edward A. Ledgerwood, age 92, of Kennedy Township, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, peacefully in his sleep. He had been residing in Country Meadows Memory Care Unit for the past 5 months. He was preceded in death by wife Madeline (LeGrand) Ledgerwood; brother Bob (Clare) Ledgerwood. Ed graduated from McKees Rocks High School Class of 1949 and then enlisted in the US Navy where he served aboard the USS Fulton AS-11 during the Korean War. After his military service he found his future wife Madeline at West View Danceland and they began their “Happily Ever After” on June 25, 1955, together 60 years. Ed was a member of Archangel Gabriel Parish, St. Malachy Church, and the American Legion Post 464. He was a Water Safety Instructor for many years as well as a volleyball enthusiast and figure skater, the latter until his late 80s. He enjoyed his 40s music tremendously and often sang along. He worked for LoneStar Cement as a lab technician/cement tester for 49 years before retiring in 1998. He is survived by his loving children, Tom (Joyce) Ledgerwood of Aliquippa, PA; Jan (Pete) Beccari of Oakdale, PA; and Jack (Susy) Ledgerwood of Herndon, VA; four grandchildren, Julie (Jonathan) Cook of Rock Hill, SC; Laura (Mike) Seibert of Bel Air, MD; Aaron (Jenna) Ledgerwood of Englewood, CO; and Megan Ledgerwood of Aliquippa, PA; 10 great-grandchildren Caleb, Ethan, Gabriel, and Sebastian Cook, Mary Grace, Lucia, Joseph, Gianna, Nicholas, and Peter Seibert; also survived by eight nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Ed loved his family dearly and enjoyed being together with them. He was a generous and fun-loving person with a great sense of humor. Ed will be dearly missed by his family and all that knew him. Relatives and friends will be received Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, 334 Forest Grove Road, Coraopolis (Kennedy Township) PA 15108. Funeral prayer Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Archangel Gabriel Parish, St. Malachy Church, 343 Forest Grove Road, Kennedy Township. Interment to follow in The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors.
